Description
Wildlife
The site is chiefly covered in mature woodland of pedunculate oak and ash. There is a dense shrub layer, mostly composed of blackthorn, elder, goat willow, damson, bramble, raspberry, hawthorn and coppiced hazel. Other trees include sycamore, wild cherry, False-wood brome, red fescue and ivy. Bramble and young ash saplings dominate the ground layer. The meadow clearing in the middle is dominated by false oat-grass with cow parsley and hogweed. An old hedge is made up of hawthorn, including hybrids between common hawthorn and Midland hawthorn, and a little blackthorn. Several mature oak and field maple emerge from the hedge. A traditionally managed native hedgerow running south along Alice Thompson Close Rd is comprised of frequent hazel, hawthorn, blackthorn and dogwood. The site attracts a number of birds familiar to parks and gardens and is home to a variety of insects. There is also an abundance of bats, of which six species have been recorded, including serotine, Noctule, daubenton, leisler's, pipistrelle and soprano pipistrelle.Facilities
