Description

A large area of ancient woodland, which became isolated from Epping Forest over 350 years ago.

Wildlife

The dominant trees on this site are pedunculate oak over neglected coppice hornbeam. Other species include wild cherry, beech, silver birch and wild service-tree. The last is widespread and common here, but generally scarce elsewhere in London. Ground flora plants include bluebells, wood anemone, wood melick and dog's-mercury. The birdlife includes great spotted woodpecker, great tit, blackbird, blue tit, robin and chiffchaff.
