Wildlife

The grass is lightly managed, with a fair number of wildflowers, such as garlic mustard, cow parsley, lesser celandine and lords-and-ladies. There are a good number of mature trees, including ivy-clad oaks, horse-chestnut and London plane. An old, unmanaged hedgerow has expanded into a belt of scrub and thickets of hawthorn, blackthorn and bramble provide further nesting habitat. The local RSPB group has recorded an impressive list of birds here, including green, great spotted and lesser spotted woodpeckers, sparrowhawk, blackcap, goldcrest and coal tit, many of them breeding on the site. Spotted flycatcher and cuckoo have also been sighted here in recent years.
