The Litten Local Nature Reserve
Borough: Ealing
Grade: Borough Grade II
Access: Access at limited times
Area: 1.05 ha

Description

This Local Nature Reserve comprises an area of pleasant woodland of varying ages, together with a number of ponds.

Wildlife

The woodland is varied in both structure and species composition. Older, mature woodland is interspersed with younger woodland and scrub around the paths and ponds. This provides a range of woodland-edge habitats suitable for birds and other wildlife. Many different trees and shrubs occur. Some of the more frequent include horse chestnut, hazel, pedunculate oak, elder, snowberry and English elm. Ivy dominates at ground-level over most of the site. The ponds provide further variety and support a range of wetland plants including pendulous sedge, water plantain, yellow iris, celery-leaved buttercup and soft-rush.
