Bird-in-Bush Park
Borough: Southwark
Grade: Local
Access: Free public access (all/most of site)
Area: 0.45 ha

Description

Between the centre of Peckham and the Old Kent Road, this imaginatively landscaped small park in Bird-in-Bush Road is less intensively managed than most. The park had new community beds installed in 2005.

Wildlife

The site has long grass and plenty of trees and shrubs. An ecology area in the northeast corner consists of roughland with a variety of wildflowers. The BMX track supports short ruderal species such as Canadian fleabane and the bare south facing banks provide potential nesting opportunities for solitary bees and other invertebrates. Speckled wood butterfly and several birds including robin and goldfinch have been recorded.
