Strategic plan and policies

Access to Data Policy

All data use is governed by formal licences, and users must follow the agreed terms, including respecting data ownership, privacy, and restrictions on reuse or publication. This policy ensures that GiGL continues to act as a trusted steward of London’s environmental data while enabling appropriate end use of our services.

Charging Policy

We believe data should be accessible, but not at the cost of their sustainability. Calls for GiGL to publish our core datasets and methodologies under an open licence, without recognising the costs of the infrastructure and expertise required to maintain them, put the entire system at risk. Our aim is to remain a trusted steward of data about London’s natural environment, while operating a financially sustainable, socially responsible business model.

Privacy Policy

We are committed to keeping the personal details of all the people who interact with GiGL safe. This policy explains how and why we use your personal data, to ensure that you remain informed and in control of your information.

GiGL Strategy

Greenspace Information for Greater London (GiGL), the capital’s environmental records centre, assists its partners and customers in understanding and auditing London’s natural environment. We provide access to services run by highly skilled staff that utilise relevant data management, mapping and analysis software to provide you with answers to your requirements.

Validation & Verification Policy

Data validation and verification is carried out during the import routine, and entails checking all aspects of the records (who, where and when) bar the species identification (the ‘what’).

Open Space Data Validation & Verification

Data validation and verification is carried out during the import routine, and entails checking all aspects of the records (what, where and when).
